Phidon Story: Deanna Underwood

I first learned about Phidon when my newly promoted assistant manager purchased a gorgeous yellow Kaweco pen to celebrate her accomplishment. Inspired by her purchase, I needed to explore this store and find a pen for myself.

Baldeep and Mano were patient as I tried most every pen in the store to find the one that felt the most comfortable in my hand. I ended up with a Lamy that day, and I haven't strayed too far from the brand.

I am a creative and artistic person who makes and sends hundreds of greeting cards a year. Falling into the delightful new world of pens and ink and wax seals has taken my craft to an entirely new level. My love of collecting art supplies has evolved to an entirely new level now with inks and pens and nibs. Who knew that there could be so many different inks with sheen AND shimmer?!

And then there is the paper and the journals that can be found in the store—and the Roterfaden! Finally, a calendar system that you can personalize and it is housed in a gorgeous unit. I love the story behind the brand: it was a thesis project that has become a cult following in the pen and paper world.

My ideal Saturday includes a trip to Cambridge to wander the store and find new treasures and maybe take a penmanship class or two. Chats with Mano and travel destination chatter with Baldeep round out my visit. I love the focus on family that Mano and Baldeep exemplify. Cloth bags made by Mano's sweet Mother and seeing Simran, Doug and Arman in the store from time to time always warms my heart.

I am so grateful for that yellow pen and the journey that has ensued. Deanna xo
