A Note on Ink Shipping in Winter
Winter has finally arrived, and though we try our best to pack every order carefully, we know that there is always a risk of breakage or damage when shipping out bottled inks during our extended cold season in Canada. Each year, we inevitably come across a few emails from dismayed customers who opened their Phidon packages only to discover that their new bottle of fountain pen ink has leaked, or worst, shattered. There is nothing more disappointing, in our minds, than waiting impatiently for a parcel to arrive, only to discover an inky mess (and potential damage to all your other much-anticipated stationery goodies as well).
The reality of life in the Great White North is that there is no bulletproof way to prevent inks from freezing in transit as the package sits overnight in an unheated postal warehouse or delivery truck. This is especially true for out-of-province orders that are getting delivered to addresses on the east or west coast. As such, this year, we’ve moved ahead with a wintertime ink shipping policy, and will be excluding certain brands of bottled inks from shipping. We’ve tried to keep this list as short as possible, and only selected the brands that we’ve had repeated issues with in the past.
You will find that if you included bottled inks from the following brands in your cart between the months of November to April, you will not be able to set your address for order shipment at checkout:
Ferris Wheel Press
We will adjust this list based on our experiences during the season, so check back on this page for updates if you encounter an issue with address validation at checkout. Bear in mind, as well, that most inks are fine and can be mailed out without any issues.
In addition, orders containing bottled inks will likely ship out on Mondays only. This way, we can reduce the chance of a package being held in a Canada Post warehouse over the weekend in -20°C temperatures. Of course, local customers can always select in-store pick-up for any of the excluded products and still be able to purchase the items on their wishlist.
We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this policy may cause, and thank you for your kind understanding.
