Halloween Fountain Pen Inkspiration
Halloween is likely going to look a bit different at the average household this year, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t celebrate the spookiest night of the year! Whether you’re keeping a record of all of the terrifying movies you’re watching or just enjoying some extra candy over a journaling session, here are our recommendations for fountain pen inks for Halloween 2020!
As always, the photos have been edited to best represent the true colour of the inks in person, but the ink colours may appear slightly different because of factors like screen brightness. If you’re shopping with us in person, be sure to ask to see our ink sample book for all of the colours you’re interested in!

Lamy Black
One of the darkest black inks in the store, Lamy Black is a super-saturated option for the darkest of nights, the blackest of cats, and the grisliest of stories! Whether you’re taking notes at the office or at school or your sketching the bats that flitter through your thoughts, Lamy Black is a reliable option.
Platinum carbon black
Though it is less saturated than some of the other blacks, Platinum Carbon Black is a great option if you sketch, paint, or write notes that you want to take with you into the afterlife. Like the stubbornest of ghosts, Platinum Carbon Black isn’t going to go anywhere; even if you accidentally dunk it into Crystal Lake, the carbon colour makes it almost completely waterproof!
Pilot Iroshizuku Take-Sumi
With a smooth flow and a wet writing experience, Pilot Iroshizuku Take-Sumi is the last black ink that makes the list this Halloween. Whether you’re writing the next horror best-seller or you’re simply journaling the day away, Take-Sumi is a dream for long writing sessions.
Diamine Pumpkin
Other than candy, is there anything more Halloween than pumpkins? Though it might only be your immediate household that gets to see your festive Jack O’Lanterns this year, Diamine Pumpkin is a great choice for sending Halloween cards and sketching your favourite elements of the season
Diamine Brandy Dazzle
An autumn favourite, Diamine Brandy Dazzle is a deep orange, reminiscent of copper, with gold shimmer particles. Like a caramel apple or a cup of apple cider, Brandy Dazzle is a cozy choice that will add personality to any campfire story.
Sailor Manyo Sakura
Sakura for Halloween? We know what you’re thinking, but it’s a great colour for the season! Sailor Manyo Sakura is a new addition to the Manyo ink lineup, and it is a unique pink that verges on orange. On top of being a bright choice for your Halloween palette, it’s almost like it is wearing a costume — a spring pink that can double as a Halloween tinted orange.
J. Herbin Cocoa dU Bresil
Do you have fond memories of trick-or-treating on a crisp Halloween night? Other than the oranges and blacks, the colour that likely sticks out the most is brown — from mud to barren trees looming over spooky sidewalks! J. Herbin Cocoa du Bresil is a great choice for an October brown, and it is dark enough to be used in any writing setting.
TWSBI Prairie Green
From witch’s brew to Frankenstein monster’s skin, light green is also a Halloween colour! TWSBI Prairie Green is a great choice for dreaming up spells and potions, as well as your daily to-do lists and Halloween cookie recipes.
Graf von Faber Castell violet blue
Finally, it wouldn’t be Halloween without a deep purple! Graf von Faber Castell Violet Blue is a muted purple with rich shading in a broader nib. It will go perfectly with TWSBI Prairie Green or Diamine Pumpkin for a little more ghoulish fun in your writing and sketching.
