Everything You Need to Know About the Caran D'Ache 849 Nespresso Ballpoint Pen

The 2020 special edition Caran D’Ache Nespresso ball pen colour is here: Arpeggio purple!

If you’re worried about the environment and all of the waste that we create every year, you’ll be happy to learn about one of the most environmentally friendly products we carry: the Caran D’Ache Nespresso ballpoint pens! After Nespresso pods have been used for your morning cup, the aluminum is recycled into the iconic 849 ball pen.

Currently, the Nespresso 849 is only available in a dependable ball pen. This makes it easy to take on the go with you no matter what you’re doing. It’s also almost impossible to destroy! There are absolutely no plastic parts to this pen, and it is entirely made of metal. The parts that aren’t made of the recycled pod are the clip and the click mechanism, which are made of shiny aluminum.

Underneath the clip you can find the Caran D’Ache logo, “Swiss made” appears above the clip, and the Caran' D’Ache brand name also wraps around the click mechanism. On the other side of the pen, the pen is marked with white engraving of “made with recycled Nespresso capsules,” so everyone who borrows your pen will know your commitment to sustainability — and stylish design!

There have been three editions of the Nespresso pen so far, and each one is a special edition colour for its year. The 2020 special edition, purple, was just released last week and we are very excited about this colour! You can also find the colours from 2018 and 2019, blue and green respectfully, on our website.

Even the packaging is 100% sustainable. Inside, it is one folded piece of 100% recycled cardboard. It’s a beautiful feat of design, and we highly recommend that you unfold the box to see its craftsmanship once your pen is safely in your pocket. You can also recycle all of the packaging to pay it forward!

The colours on the Nespresso pens also match a specific Nespresso capsule colour, so you might be able to match your choice of coffee to your pen! The volume 1 capsule is recycled from the “Dharkan” blend, and the green aluminum is recycled from the “Indriya” capsule in volume 2. This year’s purple comes from “Arpeggio”, which is a blend known to have a strong character and is inspired by the city of Florence.

The packaging on the Nespresso pens is made from a single piece of 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard.

The Caran D’Ache 849 design is the best selling ball pen in the store. It has a hexagonal design that won’t roll away when you set it down on your desk. It’s also exceptionally thin, so it can fit in any style of pen loop. That’s especially great for the slim pen loops with Leuchtturm1917 and Roterfaden. It’s also relatively lightweight because of its aluminum body, but it has enough weight that you don’t have to worry about it getting out from under your hand.

The pen takes the Caran D’Ache Goliath size refills, which the company boasts can write up to 600 A4 size pages before needing to be replaced. That’s a lot of pages! We carry the refills in red, green, black, and blue, and in fine, medium, and large (broad) tips.
