Meet Our Exclusive MacLellan Books Artist's Series Notebooks!

“The Other Shore” is designed by Eveline Lam has dotted, fountain pen friendly Tomoe River paper.

Supporting local is incredibly important to us. Whether it’s donating back to local initiatives or collaborating with other local businesses, supporting our community is of upmost importance to us. That’s why we’re so excited to share our latest collaboration with MacLellan Books: the Artist’s Series!

The pocketbooks are printed and bound by MacLellan books and designed by local artists who have a connection to Phidon. We’ve released two volumes of the series so far, and we hope to expand to include more volumes in the future! Each set is limited edition, and only 50 sets will be released of each artist’s work.

MacLellan books was founded in 2014 with four principles in mind: quality manufacturing, community-mindedness, creativity, and learning. We work very closely with Alistair MacLellan, MacLellan Books’ creator, and his notebooks are always bestsellers in the store. Though he is based in Waterloo, he recently moved into an offical bookbinding space in Elmira. We carry a variety of MacLellan Books notebooks, all of which are exclusive to Phidon.

The books are official “pocketbook” size, 3.5” by 5.5.” That makes them a slim book that is easy to take on the go! They will fit in A6 notebook covers, like the Roterfaden, but it is also small enough to slip into your back pocket. They are also staple-bound, so they will stay extra slim and portable.

The Other Shore

The first edition of the Artist’s Series is “The Other Shore,” which is done by Eveline Lam, a Toronto-based designer and ceramicist. You can find more of her work at EvyThing studio, where she sells a variety of ceramics. We especially love her beautiful mugs!

Eveline completed her Master’s at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture, just down the road from us at Phidon. This is how we got to know her, and we’re so happy to be working with her again now. She is inspired by aspects of nature, and this is reflected in the water themes in “The Other Shore.” You can find her work on Instagram as @evything.studio.

The pack has two notebooks with dotted Tomoe River paper, which is excellent for fountain pens. Each notebook has 40 sheets (80 pages), and the pack has one notebook with a kraft colour and one with a white cover.

Community in Bloom” has a montage of illustrations by Kata Law focused around Phidon, fountain pens, and florals.

Community in Bloom

Community in Bloom” is the second edition of our Artist’s series. It is designed by Kata Law, one of the teachers for our classes and the creator of Wanderlust Watercolours. Kata is a London-based watercolour artist who continually encourages everyone around her. If you’ve met her, you’ll know her “everyone can create” mantra, and she is quick to remind you that trying, even if you don’t succeed, is better than not trying at all.

On top of being an artist and a paint-maker, Kata is a stay-at-home mom to one of our favourite Phidon vistors, JJ! As well as art supplies, she has a deep love of stationery and fountain pens. Because of this, we’re so excited to see some of her art on our notebooks! You can find her on Instagram as @wanderlustwc.

This pack has three notebooks with the standard MacLellan Books paper, which is 100gsm and safe for use with fountain pens. You can also do light washes of watercolour on this paper! Each notebook has 24 sheets (48 pages), and there is one lined, one dotted, and one blank notebook per pack.
