Best Fountain Pen Inks for Fall

Fall is such an inspirational time for so many people. As we head into Inktober, you might be looking for inkspiration for the autumn season! Here are some inks that remind us of a nice apple cider under a plaid blanket.

As always, the photos in this post have been corrected to replicate how the colour will look in person, but factors like screen brightness might make the colours appear slightly different online. You can also find our entire selection of inks on our website.

Oranges

Diamine has so many different colours in its range that it should be no surprise that some of our favourite autumn colours come from the brand. Especially for deep, rich oranges, Diamine has quite the selection! You especially can’t go wrong with two fall staples: Autumn Oak and Pumpkin. For other fall oranges, try Graf von Faber Castell Burned Orange or Colorverse Tango.

Reds

If you haven’t seen yet, Sailor recently released a brand new selection of Manyo inks, some of which are perfect for fall! We especially think that Ume is a lovely colour, just like a fallen maple leaf. Other great choices for reds to match the season are Diamine Oxblood and Red Dragon, deep reds that can verge on brown with the right pen. For a shimmering option, J. Herbin Rouge Hematite is a nice red with real gold flakes.

Pictured above is a selection of Sailor Manyo inks, including the just-released colours! You can find all in-stock colours of Sailor ink here.

Yellows

If you’ve ever tried to read yellow text from a distance, you’ll know just how hard it is to shop for the perfect yellow ink! Luckily, we carry several deep, golden yellows. Lamy Mango, a special edition release this year to match the special edition Candy Mango Safari, is great for an autumn yellow. Diamine Amber is another great option if you’re looking for a more true yellow.

Browns

From chestnuts and acorns to trees and campfires, brown is also undoubtedly an autumn colour! Brown is also a colour that is fun enough to give a splash of colour to more professional note taking. Some of our favourite autumn browns are Graf von Faber Castell Hazelnut Brown, Platinum Mixable Earth Brown, and Pilot Iroshizuku Tsukushi.

Greys

As much as the changing colours are inspirational, autumn also brings its fair share of rainy, grey skies. The fall clouds have inspired many ink colours, like Pilot Iroshizuku Kiri-Same. Kiri-Same literally translates to “drizzle,” which we think is perfect for the season. Other great options for autumn greys are J. Herbin Vert de Gris and Moonstone, Pelikan’s 2020 ink of the year.
