What is InCoWriMo? What You Need to Know for 2022!

Happy February and happy InCoWriMo!

The month of February can be very dreary - especially in Canada - where post holiday season it feels like winter will never end. However, your indoor time can be a great reason to put your favourite pens and stationery to good use for InCoWriMo. And if you can’t think of who to write to, we love to get mail at Phidon. This year we are running a giveaway in celebration of those correspondence!

What is InCoWriMo?

InCoWriMo is short for International Correspondence Writing Month that takes place every February. The goal is to write and send a correspondence everyday in the month. Your writing doesn’t need to be in a full letter - it can be a postcard, a note, a card or anything that you consider to be correspondence. You can send it through the mail, or deliver it by hand. You could even leave a nice note to a stranger at a coffee shop, or slide it under a neighbour's door - anywhere it can be discovered and enjoyed by the recipient.

Why participate in InCoWriMo?

InCoWriMo is inspired by NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month, which is a challenge of writing 50,000 words of a novel in the thirty days of November. Like the intention of NaNoWriMo, InCoWriMo aims to challenge and inspire people to write, enjoy the process, and feel the rewards that traditional correspondence brings. There is a simple and rewarding joy in writing to a loved one or even a stranger - and InCoWriMo challenges you to explore that!

Inspiration for InCoWriMo

We love any reason to write, letter writing included. If you are looking for inspiration of what to write about, check out these 10 InCoWriMo prompts for letter-writing from last year. If you are starting to feel bored with how you’re writing (28 days is a lot of writing!) there are many different styles and aesthetics to try out! Whether you want to try a very elegant, traditional style of stationery or maybe now is the perfect time to try out the fun and popular Pigeon folded writing paper set! You can read about a variety of styles from our previous blog here!

Who should I write to this InCoWriMo?

You can write to whoever you want this month, someone you always talk to, someone you have lost touch with, even a stranger. If you are looking for recipients, we love getting your letters at Phidon! Write to us about your day, how you’re enjoying your stationery lately, or something cool you look forward to seeing this year at the shop. We truly cherish each letter and have been working on displaying them all.

In celebration and appreciation of all your mail, and InCoWriMo, we are giving away a Pigeon Letter Writing Set and a Pilot Kakuno Fountain Pen. To enter, all you have to do is send us a letter before February 28th.
