Hobonichi 2021 Planners are Now on Sale!

The Hobonichi planner is a cult favourite for a reason, and its popularity grows every year. This year is the 20th anniversary of the product, and we couldn’t be more excited about the fun designs the brand has released to celebrate!
What makes the Hobonichi so special? Hobonichi planners are made with one of the most fountain pen friendly paper brands in the industry, Tomoe River, meaning that fountain pen users can enjoy their favourite inks while they make something as simple as a to-do list. Reminding yourself when it is garbage day has never been so luxurious!
On top of having incredible paper, Hobonichi has incredibly designed products. They are extremely high quality, and every detail is put together with care. That goes for both the planners themselves and the covers that hold them!
Finally, the Hobonichi planners are not a one-size-fits-all approach. There are several different kinds of planners that users can choose from and adapt to their unique needs and budgets.
Techo
The Techo is an A6 sized book with one page for every day. You can get the original planner in Japanese or an English version of the planner. All the cover and planner Techo sets that we sell in the store have an English language planner on the inside. This is the most popular planner in the Hobonichi collection, and there are many different covers that you can choose from!
At the front of the Techo, you will find all the months of the year at a glance, followed by the daily pages. At the beginning of each month, there is a single lined page for you to record memories, make goals, or write down intentions. At the back of the book, there are some cute tips for living well before a small selection of extra dot-grid pages.
The Techo is great for to-do lists, meal planning, and recording small thoughts. Because of its compact size, it is easy to take with you on the go, and you’ll have no trouble fitting it on tray-tables on buses, trains, or planes. It is perfect for everyday use!
If you love to write a lot, have super busy days, or want to use your planner as a journal, the Hobonichi Cousin is double the size of the Techo, giving you double the room to write!
Cousin
Similar to the Techo, the Cousin is a planner with one page for every day of the year. The Cousin is an A5 size, so it is double the size of the Techo. Though the daily pages are likely the pages you will use most often, the Cousin also has monthly and weekly overviews to keep you extra organized. It is printed exclusively in Japanese, and the planners are sold seperately or with a small selection of covers.
This planner might be the right choice for you if you want a lot of room for planning! This is a particular favourite of art journalers because of the room to work, and it is also particularly great for a memory book. We recommend this size for anyone who wants to cram their whole life into one planner — the Cousin can take it all!
Weeks
The Hobonichi Weeks is a wallet-sized planner that is remarkably thin! The Weeks has the days of the week, with a Monday start, on the left page of the spread and a gridded, undated work sheet on the right page. There is also a small notebook of grid paper, 71 pages to be exact, included in the back of the planner, which many people use for journalling, quick notes, or tracking hobbies.
The Weeks Mega is virtually the same planner, but it has many more extra sheets at the back, making it much thicker than the regular Weeks. Both planners are printed in Japanese, and they have the year stitched or debossed into the cover, depending on which cover you’re going for. The year also appears on the spine of many of the planners. If you’re looking for an artistic design on your cover, there are stunning designs this year as well. The Weeks is great for a quick note on the go. It’s also great if you don’t have an abundance of tasks you have to complete every day, but plenty to do sometime during the week. That’s what you can use the right page for, along with doodles, quotes, or whatever else strikes your fancy!

Other Planners
If you love to fill your planner with extras, like washi tape or photographs, the Avec series might be a good choice for you. It comes in both A5 and A6 sizes, and it has the first half of the year in one notebook and the second half in the other. This will help ensure that your planner won’t get too thick to carry around, and you can have a fresh start (that can actually close properly) halfway through the year.
On the other hand, if you want complete freedom, you could look into a Hobonichi Day-Free planner. These planners are actually more like notebooks because they have no pre-printed dates. They are much thinner than the other planners because of this, but they are excellent if you prefer a method like Bullet Journalling to a traditional planner. They also come in A5 and A6 sizes.
Extras
Hobonichi wouldn’t be Hobonichi without the extras! This year we brought in Cover-on-Covers for the Techo, Cousin, and Weeks sized books, which is a protective plastic sleeve to put over your cover to keep it clean. We also brought in pencil boards in all three sizes, which helps to make all of your writing even. This is especially helpful if you’re using pencil or ballpoint pen on Hobonichi’s ultra-thin pages so the pressure doesn’t leave indents on the other side of the page.
We also brought in a small selection of Hobonichi notebooks as well. The notebooks are available in A5 or A6, and there are also slim memo pads that will fit in a Hobonichi cover with your planner or in other organizer systems like the Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter.
